The temporal bone is a bone of the skull that covers the side of the head all around the ear.

The temporal bone serves as an attachment point to the skull. Two important parts are the mastoid process and the temporal styloid process - a process is a part of a bone that projects outward. Many muscles and ligaments attach to these processes.
